Exhibition Event Design + Identity // 2019

Exhibition Theme // Expose highlights the creative identities and individual processes that students have been consciously refining over the last three years. Each graduate has worked relentlessly to harness their own mindset, style, and methods of creating. Our goal is to have our audience examine art from a variety of perspectives, and ‘expose’ them to new approaches of viewing art and of art creation.

As design lead for the 2019 Visual Communications Grad Show, I worked with a team of talented peers/designers to create the visual identity of Expose. This team consisted of Alfred Dalevik, Lane Bossence, Pepper Laturnus, Katie Odgen, and Casper Mathias. As lead design, not only was I involved in the design, and art direction of the work, but also budgeting, scheduling, and production. 

We wanted to create an idetity that was unique to past years, instantly recognizable, and something that gave us room to play within. We contrasted the digital elements to represent tech practices, while contrasting that with a CMYK colour scheme, that represents the traditioinal printing practices. Representing the duality of creatives, and our program specifially. We played with the idea of glitching, and the uniqueness of artwork and creativity. Glitching from the box we find ourselves in as creatives, something we must function within, but also think outside.

Through teamwork, heavy process, and brainstorming, our team came together to create some interesting pieces for the show. Items such as the invite actually “exposed” themselves as you open them. We had a few sets of posters for the exhibition, one was multi-media, using both a printer and screen printing to create an interesting effect, and a long format poster designed completely glitched to catch the eye. We created exhibition shirts for the take aways, which were gone within 15 minutes of the exhibition opening,
